5-day MASTERCLASSES paper porcelain

by tinne debruijne

‘Undisturbed learning & experimenting in a unique place’

A 5-day intensive Masterclass where you'll learn every technique I use to create with paper porcelain, from delicate filigree to organic sculptural forms.
You'll work in a contemporary studio in a 17th-century château, eat incredible food, and leave with both finished pieces and the confidence to continue exploring this material on your own. With Tinne Debruijne, 25 years of ceramic expertise, specializing in paper porcelain.

Why this masterclass is different

Complete access to everything I know

After 25 years of ceramics, with 17 years of paper porcelain, I share my recipes, techniques, and approaches without holding anything back.
You'll learn exact recipes, specific methods, and why certain approaches work.

Individual attention, maximum 8 students

I work one-on-one with each of you, adapting techniques to fit your creative vision.
Whether exploring paper porcelain for the first time or deepening existing skills, I'll help you find approaches that work for your ideas.

Calm, patient teaching

You'll have time to understand each technique before moving forward. I welcome every question, even repeated ones.
Mistakes are how we learn what the material can do.

A creative retreat, not just a workshop

You're staying on a historic estate in southwest France, working in my studio, eating meals prepared with local seasonal ingredients.
The setting lets you focus completely on creating, no distractions.
Create and experiment morning and afternoon, then relax by the pool, have a drink, go for a walk to the lake and share ideas over dinner with other artists.

CHOOSE YOUR MASTERCLASS

Choose your masterclass level

Beginner masterclass (weeks 1-4)

This is where you learn the fundamental techniques of paper porcelain.
You'll work small and experimentally, mastering each method before moving to larger work.

You'll work hands-on with both liquid and plastic paper porcelain, learning exactly when and why to choose each type for your creative vision.

Through guided experimentation, you'll create organic forms and delicate wall panels by dipping combustible materials in liquid paper porcelain, discovering how natural objects transform into permanent ceramic pieces.

You'll build sculptural forms using slip-trailing and coiling techniques, gaining confidence with both methods through direct practice and individual guidance.

My signature decorating techniques, "dry to dry" and "wet to dry," will give you precise control over surface textures and finishes, opening new creative possibilities for any paper porcelain project.

By mid-week, you'll fire the pieces you created in the first three days, so you can see your finished work and understand how paper porcelain transforms in the kiln before the week ends.

This class welcomes artists new to paper porcelain. A basic understanding of working with clay helps you get the most from the week.

Advanced masterclass (weeks 5-6, September only)

Open only to those who've completed my beginner masterclass in France or my full bundle of online masterclasses. This week focuses on expanding your scale and confidence while refining your technical control.

You'll apply all the fundamental techniques to create larger, more ambitious work, pushing beyond the experimental scale of the beginner week.

I'll teach you two advanced building methods: assembling sculptures from small dried components and creating large-scale forms with dipped combustible materials. Both techniques work with liquid and plastic paper porcelain, giving you the structural knowledge to build complex pieces that hold their form through drying and firing.

This week is about translating what you've mastered into the work you've been envisioning, with individual guidance on solving the technical challenges that come with working larger.

  • Dutch, English & French spoken
(Classes will be taught in English when there are students of different nationalities in the class.)

  • All materials are provided and there are no extra charges for materials or firings.
All the pieces you've crafted in the first three days will be promptly fired and available for you to take home.
The pieces you've created during this week can be sent to your address, for a fee (€30 within Europe & UK and €65 in other countries).

  • WHAT TO BRING:

    Notebook

Camera to take pictures (no video please ;-)

If you come by car please bring a box with packing material (pieces from the first 3 days will be fired)

    An apron is provided

    A good appetite!

I have attended other ceramic workshops but Tinne’s paper clay masterclass was by far the most enjoyable. Her calm welcoming nature and generous sharing of her extensive knowledge was inspiring.
— Carmen Couche, United States 2025
Tinne is not orthodox. She very generously teaches each of her students different techniques and encourages them to apply new knowledge to their practice, using their own style. This class was more than I could have hoped for.
— Angela Irvine Baker, United states 2025
There is only one word to describe Tinne’s masterclass: amazing. I’m so grateful to have been part of this. Tinne is a great teacher, the techniques she offers are all well explained and gave me a whole new range to explore this amazing material.

Accommodation at Logis de Beaulieu

The manor Logis de Beaulieu is located on the northern slope of a small valley. Its fields, woods, meadows, the old Charentais farmhouse Saint Germain and three natural lakes form the "Domaine de Beaulieu". The building complex dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries and was completed around 1800 by a tax official of Napoleon. Take a vacation on a historic estate and discover this beautiful place - this literal "beau" "lieu".

4 cottages/gîtes

The gîtes/cottages are part of the living history of the Domaine de Beaulieu: rustic, simple, and full of character. These are not polished château suites, but cozy, timeworn spaces surrounded by nature and history. Staying here is an invitation to experience the estate's authentic charm, artistic spirit, and centuries-old atmosphere. If you love history, creativity, and the quiet beauty of simplicity, you'll feel right at home at Beaulieu.

Chez Jean & Beaulieu Grand are in the main courtyard's side wing.

Petite Espagne is situated in the oldest wing of the main house.

Le Pavillonis detached from the main house but still nearby.

! Bathrooms will be shared between max. 2 rooms!
We provide fresh bed linen, bathroom towels, and pool towels for your stay. Kindly note that shower gel and shampoo are not included.
